Background
John
Browne has been consulting
with industry and teaching undergraduates, postgraduates, and faculty to use
and apply Mathematica in their courses and research since 1991.
He has lived and worked in Australia and the United States as both an engineer
and an academic--most recently as Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering
at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia.
Browne has developed and taught courses in Technology Modeling, Probabilistic
Design, and Programming for Engineers to undergraduate mechanical engineering
students over the past five years. He uses Mathematica exclusively for lectures,
course notes, assignments, and problem solving.
Browne was awarded a Visiting Scholar grant to Wolfram Research in 1996
and has attended a number of Mathematica developer conferences.
He is finishing a book Grassmann Algebra: Exploring Applications
of Extended Vector Algebra with Mathematica. This monograph uses Mathematica
throughout to model the algebraic system, develop and typeset the results, and
create the final page layout. Software enables readers to develop their own results
in minimal time.
Currently Browne works with Ian Roberts at Quantica Pty Ltd to provide
Mathematica consulting, courses, and specialized individual training to industry and
universities. Roberts is a teacher and an engineer and has
been using Mathematica primarily for research since 1995.
